It con be used for a lot of differents functions, including simply listent the music, to dance, as background music, etc. Unlike the dance electronic music (EDM cause it's English acronym), some form of electronic music isn't been to dance.

Thanks to the acceptance of electronic like a "mainstream" gener passing to various artists of the pop culture, they have bosted the electronic music increase to "mainstream"; however some representations of the electronic music still been close to the Indie or underground culture, while also have flowed in popular music generes that goes from the rock to hip hop.

A lot of artists that goes from Madonna to Jay-Z have used the electronic music elements in it's compositions, that influence en generes like the pop and the hip hop, and with that also have combinated a lot of times and finally ends with the "electro-hop" creation. In the pop influenced more early creating the "electropop" in the 80s, and it was the style that probably does that the electronic music be so popular actually.
